Agenda/Synopsis:
Data derive insights that can be used to make strategic decisions to give data users a competitive edge. The application of data in the financial services industry is ubiquitous, ranging from product development, and customer relationship management, to risk management. The strategic value of data has led to a proliferation of data regulations. On the one hand, they ensure that data is safely and securely used; on the other hand, these regulations have inevitably impeded the flow of data between jurisdictions. As a unique intermediary between the Chinese and international financial markets, Hong Kong could replicate its success in this space and develop into a data hub to facilitate a seamless flow of data between various jurisdictions.
In recent years, Hong Kong has revamped its digitalisation efforts to enhance cross-boundary data availability between China and the rest of the world, notably with the establishment of the Digital Economy Development Committee in June 2022. With enhanced data availability and the city’s robust technology infrastructure, data-oriented businesses are more equipped to innovate new products, mitigate risks, and capture new opportunities.
In this event, we have invited some key speakers to discuss topics such as the global data landscape, key developments in data governance, common and innovative cross-border and boundary data transfer mechanisms, and the roles Hong Kong could play in order to capture the opportunities that arise therein.
